Frequently Asked Questions about the 2010 WERC Competitive Grants Program
What type of competition can I expect?
Based on federal fiscal year 2009 competitive grants program, the Center received a total of 97 proposals of which 20 were selected and approved for funding. The Forest Service provided a total of $1.4 million for these 20 projects. Competition probably will increase this year, since the WERC budget for competitive grants is approximately $750,000.
What types of proposals were funded in prior years?
Here is a list of projects that the Center funded in 2009. Once there, select “2009” under "Fiscal Year" and then click "Continue"; on the next page, click "View Results." You can click on an individual project for a detailed description. You can also search by key words to identify specific projects of interest.
Why is there an emphasis on minimizing Forest Service funding for indirect costs?
With limited federal funds available for projects in the field, the Center is encouraging the use of indirect costs as part of the one-to-one nonfederal match requirement and to keep Forest Service funds used for indirect costs to a minimum.
Do I have to apply for a DUNS number?
If your proposal is funded, you must obtain a DUNS number from Dun & Bradstreet, and then register your organization at the Central Contracting Registration (CCR) Web site. To verify that your organization has a DUNS number or to take steps needed to obtain one, you may call the dedicated toll-free DUNS number request line at 1-866-705-5711 or click here.
Can an organization apply for more than one proposal?
Yes. An organization can submit multiple proposals. All proposals are reviewed and evaluated using only the criteria included in the fiscal year 2010 WERC Project Instructions and Application. |
