Upcoming Trails Workshops in Portsmouth & Peterborough

Durham, NH—The State of New Hampshire and the USDA Forest Service will host two daylong trails public workshops in southern New Hampshire next week. On Tuesday, June 28 the trails workshop will be held at the Urban Forestry Center on 45 Elwyn Road in Portsmouth. The following day, June 29, the workshop will be held at the Shieling Forest in Peterborough.

The workshop, called “Creating Universal Access on Recreational Trails: Trail Design, Construction and Maintenance Techniques,” is intended for those people who professionally maintain and design trails or who have a hobbyist’s interest in building one. It will include the following topics:

  • federal trail accessibility guidelines
  • designing and building trails for universal access
  • trail maintenance
  • and resources, products and tools.

The event will also include a field exercise to help attendees evaluate the accessibility of trails and an expert panel discussion on overcoming related challenges. The NH Division of Forests and Lands, Division of Parks and Recreation, Trails Bureau and the USDA Forest Service are sponsoring the event.
