The emerald ash borer has been found infesting green, black and white ash. In the Upper Midwest, ash (genus
Fraxinus ) trees are common in the urban landscape along streets, in yards and in woodlots. Green ash dominates the urban ash resource. In forest landscapes, ash tends not to be an abundant tree but can be locally very common. From a wood products standpoint, white ash is the most valuable species. Black ash is common in forested wetlands.
