Slide 53
Pinus strobus
White Pine

A large pyramidal tree becoming flat-topped and open with age. A 5-needle type reaching 80 feet in the wild but usually 50 feet under landscape conditions. Of the pines, white pines are the least tolerant of urban stress. On soils with high pH, chlorosis occurs, and on windy sites leaf scorch can be a problem. White pine is a picturesque tree with a graceful habit but is not well adapted to the urban environment.
